About Stress and its Effects
In life we are faced with many challenges, changes and some situations that are beyond our control: An overwhelming work environment, a difficult divorce, a move, a severe illness, care taking ill or elderly, expanding your business, the constant requirements of raising a family, or redefining your purpose and direction in life, to name just a few.
Stress has a myriad of documented effects on the body, and balancing our reactive stress response or hypervigilant nervous system has far reaching benefits on the digestive, endocrine (including adrenal), immune, cardiovascular, respiratory, musculoskeletal and reproductive systems as well as lowering systemic inflammation and supporting autoimmune issues.
Our brains have a great ability to change (plasticity of the brain) and instead of repeating a deeply ingrained pattern of flight, fight or freeze we can choose to allow new responses. This new orientation is reflected in our choices and approach to current and new relationships, our work environment, and our future.
Is it harder to stay present when you are stressed? You may feel overwhelmed, anxious, exhausted, less social, a lack of clarity and creativity or unsure about your next steps in life?
Our direction in life can come into greater harmony with our true nature and may open new avenues to a state of flow and reciprocity, and we start to live the life we couldn’t even imagine before!
